“WE BELONG HERE”

Photographer Sophie Bellmann initiated this project from a place of personal experience. As surfers ourselves, both Sophie and I – same as most women – witness the subtle and not-so-subtle dynamics of the lineup almost every day: being overlooked, underestimated or expected to prove ourselves simply because we are women.

Shot in Fonte da Telha on Portugal's Atlantic coast, the series brings together women surfers in a collective statement of visibility, belonging and sisterhood. Sophie captured portraits and shared moments in and around the water, while I contributed a series of headlines:

I am a SurfHer
Less Ego. More Aloha
Chasing Waves. Not Approval
We're Seasters
Sea She Can
Sorry Bro, tides change
Sexism won’t float

Other affirmations were chosen by the women themselves and painted directly onto their bodies, making each participant an active voice in the project.

The project began long before the first photo was taken. On the beach, women shared stories, chose words that reflected their experiences and painted them onto their skin. In that moment, strangers became a community. By the time we paddled out, the images were no longer just documenting the project—they were documenting the feeling that had already taken shape.

Through portraits, collective moments and body-painted messages, the images celebrate a surf culture shaped less by male hierarchy and competition and more by connection, encouragement and community.

Because the sea belongs to no one. But we belong to the sea.

ABOUT SOPHIE

Sophie Bellmann is a German photographer and filmmaker based in Portugal. Since moving to the Atlantic coast seven years ago, the ocean has become her home, an ongoing source of inspiration and also a mirror of her biggest challenges. Her work explores themes of identity, belonging, connection, womanhood, motherhood, nature, surfculture and mental health.
Her artistic approach combines documentary sensitivity with conceptual elements, often drawing on personal experiences and the relationship between body and nature.
As a surfer, mother and artist, she is particularly interested in stories of women navigating spaces traditionally shaped by masculine expectations. Through her work, she seeks to create images that foster empowerment, community and a deeper connection to ourselves, each other and the natural world.
Over the last 15 years, her work has been featured in international magazines, won awards and been showcased in exhibitions and film festivals across Berlin, Rome, Vienna, New York, Lisbon, and Weimar.

DIE WILDE STILLE
(The wild calm)

Wilde Stille Kleinow is a nature retreat and cultural space in the Uckermark, offering handcrafted accommodations surrounded by forests, meadows, horses and open landscapes. Together with designer Dörthe Gössler and developer Alex Blödorn (monodigital), I reimagined the website to better reflect the spirit of the place.

My role focused on developing the verbal identity and writing the complete website copy. The goal was to move beyond classic hospitality language and create a voice that feels warm, poetic and deeply connected to the philosophy of the project — a place shaped by simplicity, creativity, nature and human connection.

While Dörthe translated the vision into a thoughtful visual design, Alex brought the experience to life through the technical implementation. The result is a website that feels less like a booking platform and more like an invitation into a different rhythm of living.

THE MOBILITY HOUSE

When it comes to e-mobility, The Mobility House stands out as pioneers in developing solutions that strengthen the renewable energy system by utilizing electric vehicle batteries as energy storage. Their ultimate goal? Achieving zero emissions at zero costs.

Notwithstanding their advanced technologies, their brand identity initially came across as overly technical and lacking in emotion. I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to assist them in identifying their target groups and refining their Tone of Voice. This involved facilitating a workshop with their marketing team to collaboratively develop a language that resonates with everyone, ensuring it perfectly aligns with their vision and goals.

During our 2 years collaboration, I not only helped develop their messaging but also took charge of writing all content for their website relaunch and creating small movies for social media to promote the event. Moreover, I'm incredibly proud and happy that they made the bold decision to let go of the distant German polite grammar and embrace their own values by meeting their clients on eye level with a direct “Du”.

Lena May, Teamlead Brand Marketing at The Mobility House:

Sabrina has helped us tremendously during our brand and website relaunch to find the right Tone of Voice for our brand and to infuse emotions and creativity into our language. As a tech company, it's often challenging for us to communicate the benefits for our customers instead of technical product details. Sabrina has adeptly advised us in this regard and demonstrated through her texts how complex topics can be translated into clear words.

Moreover, it's simply enjoyable to work with Sabrina - even after over a year of collaboration, I am still thoroughly impressed by her refreshing approach, and I can rely on her completely for all tasks. I am eagerly looking forward to our next joint projects.

PATREON GOES EU

Patreon is a membership based plattform which enables artists to develop a recurring income stream and to create their music, comedy and arts independently from labels and third parties. Being already successful in the US with over 4 million subscribers it was time to conquer the European market. While working for ‘spring brandideas’ I developed scripts for visual interviews with the artits ‘Mogli’ and ‘Beardyman’.  Each interview should perfectly match with the style of the artist itself and at the same time introduce Patreon with a high recognition value. Thanks to OZMOZE for the collab on production & cut .

LINZERIE®

While working for ‘spring brandideas’ I was part of the team that, together with ‘dan pearlman’ revived an almost 30-year-old shopping mall in Linz (Austria) and turned it into the city’s residents favourite place.
My part was to create a holistic campaign, develop their Tone of Voice and to ensure consistency in language throughout the whole B2C communication.

The agency ‘dieckertschmidt’ developed a recruitment campaign for Mercedes-Benz truck drivers where I developed a series of Headlines which were used for printed and digital ads. That’s my favourite one.

SCHOTT CERAN®

One of the clients I worked for at ‘shanghai.berlin’ was ‘Schott Ceran®’, the inventors of the ceramic hob. When cooking became trendy again and #foodporn slowly conquered social media, the pioneering inventors were already rethinking and modeling the future kitchen. After they identified 6 categories that needed to be considered when thinking about the needs of cooking in the future, it was my task to find a name that summerises those thoughts.

At first this name was supposed to only be used for the Schott Ceran® Design Awards, a recurring event, where young talents are invited to design their visions. Later the name was registered with the USPTO and naturally became a symbol for all topics that Schott Ceran® are researching and working on to make the innovative kitchen even more innovative - until today.

The name ‘FUSICS®’ was used at the London Design Fair, for several events in Germany, international trade fairs and currently also welcomes visitors on their website.

While working for ‘Vinted’ as part of the marketing team I was responsible for the German market formerly known as ‘Kleiderkreisel & Mamikreisel’. My main focus were concepts and scripts for TV adsfor all European markets and the production of the German ads.
